Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

I signed up for this blog tour a while back and wasn't actually expecting this. But I am really excited to get into this book. It sounds really interesting. Please note that I have received this on exchange for a blog post. My blog post will obviously be a review. Please note that in no way does receiving this book affect my opinion. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts:

The writing in this novel was plain, simple and elegant at the exact same time. The writing made me want to continue. It made me want more. The flow and the structure was just amazing, it made for an easy read that just flew by faster than I wanted it to. I was so hooked from page one that I couldn't pick up another book until I was finished with this one.

Plot Thoughts:

This book was just incredible. It addresses so many sensitive subjects such as abuse and ones own sexuality. The book also provides a heart-wretching ending, but don't worry its the good kind. The story starts off by providing the readers insight into the lives of both the main characters. We get to see a little bit into Lucci's past which was really nice.

In A Gilded Cage weaves the idea of self discovery and finding one's sexuality into finding the right person. The person who will show you who you are and who would do anything for you. I loved the pace at which everything unfolded.

Character Thoughts:

Lucci/Lucas goes from a child gangsta to an emotionally abused yet proper adult. Lucci learns to face his fears by accepting an unlikely friendship and by breaking the rules that have been drilled into his mind for years. Lucci develops into a completely different independent character.

Prins was the amazing prince charming in this story. He discovers who he is in this story and that he just isn't that into girls. By meeting Lucci, Prins opens his eyes and heart to the truth. Prins is no longer a materialistic character and he fights with every part of his being to be with Lucci. Prins finds that in accepting his gender fluidity, he is able to love Lucci completely.

Final Thoughts:

This book was amazing. I couldn't put it down and when I did, it consumed my thoughts. I loved reading every moment of this book. Just a quick warning, this book does contain sexual content so please be advised when picking this book up. I recommend this book to people who want an interesting and modern twist on the classic  story.

About the Author:

Mia Kerick is the mother of four exceptional children- all named after saints - and five non pedigreed cats- all named after the best best thing to saints, Boston Red Sox players. Her husband of twenty year has been told by many that he has the patience of Job, but don't ask Mia about that, as it is a sensitive subject.

Mia focuses her stories on the emotional growth of troubled young men and their relationships, and she believes that sex has a place in a love story, but not until it is firmly established as a love story. As a teen, Mia filled spiral-bound notebooks with romantic tales of tortured heroes (most of whom happened to strongly resemble lead vocalists of 1980's big-hair bands) and stuffed them under her mattress for safekeeping. She is thankful to Dreamspinner Press for providing her with an alternate place to stash her stories.

Mia is proud of her involvement with the Human Rights Campaign and cheers each and every victory made in the name of martial equality. Her only major regret: never having taken typing or computer class in school destining her to a life consumer with two-fingered pecking and content prayer to the Gods of Technology.
