Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

I am super excited to start reading this book! I requested this from the author because I have just been hearing amazing things about the series and I absolutely love Norse mythology. This book pretty much falls right into my alley. It is middle grade but I think that it will be a book that I fly through!

Thank you so much to the author for sending me this book to review! I cannot wait to jump straight into it! Just a small disclaimer for those reading this review. I have received this book in exchange for an honest review. Please note that this does not affect my opinion in any way. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts:

The writing in this book was good. It was spot on for its target audience but I felt like there needed to be more imagery. I felt like sometimes that places where Sam went were a little under described. But the flow of the writing was super easy to get into and would draw you straight into the world. The conversations were natural and quirky. Sometimes I just wanted more of dialogue because it was so entertaining to read.

Plot Thoughts:

The book was fast paced but every now and again it felt like it was drawn out a bit too long. The book takes Norse Mythology and puts an interesting twist on it. The pages went by to fast and the action was intense. At times it felt like Sam would never find out who he is. The plot was enjoyable and super easy to get into.

Character Thoughts:

I felt like the characters were a bit too perfect. Sam was the only one who was 'flawed' in his anger. Everyone just seemed to judge Sam on something that he couldn't control. I loved, loved Mavery. She was entertaining and sassy. I cannot wait to read more about in the second book (hopefully). The relationship between Sam and Keely was a bit weird. One moment they seemed to like each other and then in the next they seemed to be just friends. I don't know if this relationship will be explored in the next books but I really hope that it does!

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. It took me back to my childhood years (granted that I am not that much older) but it reminded me of when my brother and I would play in our garden and make up small adventures where we would have to kill the bad guys. The writing was well suited for the target audience but I would have enjoyed a little bit more description. The plot was fast paced and easy to get into. The characters just felt a little too perfect but I absolutely loved Mavery.

Yours in Reading,

Melleny
