Goodreads Synopsis:

To cure fear, you must use fear.

Rose Briar claims no responsibility for the act that led to her imprisonment in an asylum. She wants to escape, until terrifying nightmares make her question her sanity and reach out to her doctor. He's understanding and caring in ways her parents never have been, but as her walls tumble down and Rose admits fault, a fellow patient warns her to stop the medications. Phillip believes the doctor is evil and they'll never make it out of the facility alive. Trusting him might be just the thing to save her. Or it might prove the asylum is exactly where she needs to be.

Book Review:
Pre-reading Thoughts:

I've been a Blaze Publishing Rep for almost a year now and lately I have felt this immense feeling that I should just read all of their titles. Asleep has been on my TBR for a while now mainly because it sounds super interesting. It is a thriller that so many people have loved and I cannot wait to jump into it!

Thank you so much to Blaze Publishing for providing me with a copy of this book! Just a small disclaimer for those reading this review. I have received this book in exchange for an honest review. Please note that this does not affect my opinion in any way. All thoughts are my own

Writing Thoughts:

The writing was good but at times it felt as though the author was pushing too much detail one moment but in the next, there wasn't a lot of detail. Whilst there wasn't a lot of consistency, I think that it aided the story quite well. It added to the atmosphere that the author was trying to create. The writing had really good pace to it. You just wanted to keep reading the book.

Plot Thoughts:

Wow, this plot was really good. It pulled you in right from the beginning. Honestly, I was so surprised about the turn that the book took. It was addictive. You just wanted to know what was going on. I also liked how the main character was able to find a friend and someone who she could trust. I also like how the book made you question what you have already read. The plot was well paced and it was easy to find myself fully immersed in the book. I got lost in the story just as the main character got lost in the cycle of her routine.

Character Thoughts:

I liked the characters in this book. They were complicated but I felt as though every now and again the characters lost some dimension but this happened really quickly and didn't take away from the story arc. Despite that, the characters were accessible and there are a lot of instances in which a reader can find common ground.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I was really surprised by this book. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. The entire book builds to this one moment and when it happens you are absolutely blown out of the park. The writing was good but there were some inconsistencies when it came to detail. However, I felt as though the inconsistencies added to the overall atmosphere of the book. The plot was really good. It pulled you in and kept you captive, wondering what is going to happen next. The characters were well rounded but there were moments where they lost some dimension. This book was really good. Thank you so much to Blaze Publishing for providing me with a copy of this book!

Yours in reading,

Melleny
